I've been leading teams for over 18 years
I started working in supermarkets at 15.
I remember looking at the store manager running around, telling everyone what to do, and thinking, “I could never do that.”
Nine years later, I was that store manager.
Along the way, I worked in a bunch of different roles, and that’s where I first got involved in HR.
After achieving some brilliant things, I decided it was time to leave food retail behind.
So I set up my own business, a successful print and embroidery company that I ran for seven years.
After that, I joined one of the UK’s largest zoos as a manager. It was wild (literally), but when Covid hit, everything changed, especially in hospitality and tourism.
After leaving the zoo, I took on an operations role at a cleaning company, managing the team day to day.
Then Covid caught me.
I got seriously ill, ended up in hospital, and was wiped out for months.
It made me step back and ask, What do I actually want to do now?
That’s when I made the shift properly into HR.
I became a multi-site HR manager for a group of hotels and designed a leadership development programme for their supervisors and managers.
I spent my time travelling across the UK delivering it, and I loved it. Especially those moments where someone would have a light bulb go off mid-workshop.
That’s what I’m all about now.
I set up Groberri to help business owners and new managers build confidence, lead their teams well, and stay on the right side of employment law, without the jargon or fluff.
